Originally designed in 1983 by W. Eugene George, FAIA and constructed by Professor George and his architectural engineering students, the project has had a continuously renewed and active building permit until the Certificate of Occupancy was issued in October 2006. The completion project has been a collaboration between the new owner, William C. Barbee, AIA and George. The finish coat of historic stucco is currently being applied. Lime plaster has no Portland cement in the mix. It breathes and will not support mold. It also has the quality of healing small temperature cracks that develop as the surface is hydrated and dries.

The project was included in the October issue of Tribeza. It also was on the Hyde Park Homes Tour in 2006. The project received the 1992 Austin Chronicle "Best Work In Progress" Award.

New Offices

Barbee Architects, Inc. is completing our new offices in what was originally called the Hyde Park Office Court located at the corner of Guadalupe and 44th Street in Hyde Park. We are now five and one-half blocks down the street from the residence, Naranjal.

We sold our previous office building located at 2116 Hancock Drive earlier this year. Our new configuration is "more adult" than Hancock, and spatially far more efficient. It is also nice not to be a landlord.

As a result of our finish out, the building owner, Woodside Development, has commissioned us to design the public spaces, imaging of facade, and reworking of circulation.
